In the space of one of the human’s heartbeats and the next, everything changed as vulnerability replaced bluster. Noah crossed the room to him, one hand resting on each of Khaz’s shoulders as he nudged him back towards the wall. Khaz took step after step backward, his chin lifting by subtle degrees as he looked up at the larger man. The solid bulk of him pressed in close, and right before warm lips met his own, the most terrifying words he’d ever heard burned themselves in his memory.
