Within the apartment, a curl of smoke rose from a black candle, centered in the middle of a circle laid from silver and covered with salt. A pentagram drawn in chalk lay inside the silver circle, with runes sketched out on each arm. Incense wafted from thuribles hung in the corners, wormwood, yew, and willow, mixed with mold and rot scraped from the edge of a grave. Black and white candles sat at the four cardinal directions, along with shallow bowls spattered with drops of blood.
